So my last post "what did he say life is like a box of chocolates" my husband and I had made the decision to rehome our beautiful German Shepherd Dog Yukon. We posted an ad on Craigs List along with some photos and a description of why we were rehoming him. I tell you it was a pretty emotional ride. Amazed the people who emailed me , must have gotten over 50 responses, some of them were pretty easy to pass aside. People who wanted him, oh and would he be okay with a bunny lose in the house, or a ferret? Right, a German Shepherd who chases goats wouldn't hurt a bunny or a ferret..... or the ones who wanted him and they lived in downtown St. Albans or Montpelier. Come on people a 120 lb German Shepherd Dog is not an apartment sized dog. The one that really got me though was the woman who asked me , "oh he sounds wonderful , could we have him on "trial" for 2 or 3 days?"
So a few people came up to see him and it didn't work out one way or the other. For one he is a big big dog, when I said in the ad 120 lbs I don't think people realized what that meant. Finally a fellow emailed me and with all the questions he asked and the background information I was hopeful. I checked him out on Facebook and I could see he was active. He asked if he could come up and meet Yukon so a date was set. I invited my kids over to spend the day , not only to meet him but for their support if indeed Yukon did set off on a new adventure.
The young man came to the door and already I could see he was the outdoors type, Yukon gave his usual bark since he didn't know him but then when the fellow came in and sat down he came over to give him a sniff to see what he was all about. We talked a bit about Yukons behaviors and what he needed and then the two of them set off on a walk. Yukon was already excited because just seeing his leash made him excited that he was going to do something. They were gone about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes and when they came back Yukon couldn't keep his eyes off him. We went out back so I could show him how he interacted with the goats, not that he was aggressive just that he was overly playful. So that was it , Yukon found a new forever home. I was really sad to see him go, the house is so empty now without our Bandit and Yukon. But I felt good in knowing I could feel comfortable again for our little goats and also that he would be getting all the exercise and attention a big dog like him deserved. And on a further note after only being there for a few days I hear he is already loved...:)
Here on the homestead the house is quiet, the two young kittens we got this winter are taking over the house. Oh do they have a surprise ahead for them....
