A new life comes

After the last few weeks, loosing our Dog Bandit, rehoming our dog Yukon and my husband heading off to work almost a month early this season  I knew this 2400 square foot house was going to  seem emptier then ever.

I started thinking about my daily hikes in the woods ( after the snow melts) and realized that Chester our Shitzu was going to have a hard time keeping up. He likes walking with me but he is apt to stop part way up the mountain and just sit there and either wait for me to pick him up or turn around and go back to the house, I often find him sitting in the porch chair when I get back.  I don't think he is a mountain dog more a couch dog. Oh but I love him, ( as I type this he is curled up on the couch next to me snoring with all four feet in the air)
Now of course the goats love going for hikes and they keep up really well the follow me everywhere and if I run they run, I stop they just stop and eat till I move on again.  But they don't offer my much security , neither does Chester.  Now Yukon I felt safe with .... Yep, I knew  before we rehomed him that he would leave a big hole in my heart and a big empty space in our house.   I knew I needed to do something about that.

I went on a search, my Daughter  had adopted a rescue shortly after we moved here to Vermont.
Good ol Ollie , he looks to be a Lab cross of some sort. He is a sweetie and we all love him.  So Anders and I talked about it and decided we would look for a puppy that we could train from the start to respect the goats and could give me a little more security than Chester but a little less that Yukon. There are so many rescue organizations around and its so sad that there are so very many dogs that need homes.  The numbers are staggering.

I found this one site Golden Huggs  which is local to Vermont and I found a few puppies who could fit the bill there. I filled out the application and luckily since our family had adopted a rescue before we got in the fast track. She gave me the phone numbers to call and talk to the different organizations where the puppies were. One was in Arkansas the other I think was in  Tennessee . By the time I got off the phone with Kathy at Wynne friends of animals I had already decided.  She asked me if I wanted to drive down to meet the transport or if I wanted to pick up my puppy in Burlington. There was no way I would miss meeting the transport even though its a 3 1/2 hour drive. So tomorrow Saturday the 19th I am loading up the new dog crate and driving down to welcome the newest member to our family.  I am bringing kleenex I remember how when I went with Melissa there wasn't a dry eye in the crowd of 50 or more people as we watched all the dogs come out of the transport and into the arms of their new loving homes.

So watch for pictures and a story about that adventure later...
Meet Whiskey who is coming from Arkansas...
